Local Missions Casa Supports

Feeding center at christina

Cristina's Feeding Center/Church

The feeding center is located in the southeast area of San Luis.  This area in the city is one of the most impoverished areas that Casa supports.  The location is adjacent to the city landfill and close to the water canal.  Many families live in the landfill and scratch out a living there.  Food support is only part of the work done here.  The mission also provides beds and showers to children who need protection and a place to feel secure.

This mission provides meals for children on the weekends and a place to worship.  Across the street is the church that sponsors the mission (Restauración un nuevo Amanecer) where the community comes together for worship, Sunday school, and Bible study.

Cristina is the director for the church and the feeding center.  She has an amazing story of how she came to know Christ.  Her commitment to the mission is grounded in the gospel.

An addition to the church was completed with the help of a Casa youth team from South Dakota.  This serves as a community room and Sunday School room.  This project included finishing the walls, roof and the floor with tile.  Lights and electrical systems were completed.

Casa remodeled the kitchen and storage area to improve functionality.  A food prep area,a sink, and cooking area were part of this project. The storage area was upgraded with shelving and bins.

The outdoor area between the feeding center and the bunk/shower rooms was sand.  A concrete slab was installed in this area.  This area is used as a recreation area and a place where community events can be held.
Sylvias

Sylvia's After School Feeding Center

This mission is located by a school in the area Casa serves.  It is run by Sylvia.  The mission’s main focus is Food For Kids (Comida Infantil).  After school, kids come to this center and get a meal, use the facilities, and hear the gospel through Bible stories.

A project that Casa completed here was an addition/upgrade to the bathrooms.  Children needed a restroom available to use after school, as the school does not provide toilet paper.  This was a need that Casa supported by upgrading the facility.  New tables were constructed and the lighting was upgraded in the eating area.  We also donate funds to help with the food costs.

Cristina's Overnight Housing

Casa provided support to local orphanages in the area.  When a need arises that Casa can support, mission teams also work on these projects.  A youth team helped by remodeling an orphanage that needed repair.

This included repairing showers and tile in the bathrooms, installing new doors and painting the facility.  Picnic tables were constructed for use in the courtyard.  This work was done in the heat of the summer, but the team persevered.
Casa also provides donated items to these orphanages when items become available.
