1 Corinthians 12:26-27   If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

Greetings Friends,

I just realized we have not sent out an update for over 2 months. There is a lot going on with the students and with the groups who are showing some interest in making the trek south of the border to build homes. Just last week we brought a new group down to show them around, and give them an update on what we do. A couple of the places we have visited have been doing ministry or gearing up for the upcoming school year. One of the places we stopped at is Cristina’s church and feeding center. She shared with us that she has begun to minister to a new group of people at the new city dump, and also continues her work at the current place. I asked what she was in need of, and she shared that at the new place, there are close to 30 kids that do not have shoes. The adults have some sort of shoe to work in the dump, but she asked if we could help get shoes and socks for these kids. I also asked Cristina what was happening at her current facility.  She said she is feeding 70-80 kids every weekend, in a 12x30 dining hall. They are attempting to add a large shade canopy outside in front of the dining hall so the kids don't have to be in direct sunlight. The shade will cover an area of about 30x70 feet. She will also need several tables built or bought as well, to accommodate the kids that show up. Currently she is housing some families from southern Mexico who are escaping the drug cartel. There were also two young kids standing by her, and I asked who they were. She said she was not 100% sure, but that they had come from the dump area, and could not find their parents. One of the gentlemen in the group asked who is paying for the food right now. She looked over her shoulder at her mechanic husband, and smiled. Ruben just shrugged his shoulders, acknowledging...Yep, it's me. As we left, we reassured her that help was on the way. As we told her this, she fell into a lady’s arms and sobbed. It made me think of the burden on her heart every night, going to bed hoping she has enough to care for the needs of the people the Lord has entrusted to her. We got in the truck to leave and the one gentleman said he felt like selling his house to help. It doesn't take selling your house, it just takes a group of people working together, and doing what they can to make a difference in the lives of people.

We also made a stop at Sylvia's feeding center to get an update on what she has planned for the new school year. She informed us that she had started to feed the kids, but all the food was being delivered or given to them outside, because the kitchen and dining area was unbearably hot...125 degrees when we walked in. Part of the roof had caved in, and she said she has been seeing more and more rats coming in through the cracks. This week we are going to take care of the roof issue and the rodents. We as a group did visit about what adding a couple mini split air conditioner units would do to change the whole dynamics of her feeding the children. We discussed the spiritual impact of adding a/c so she could minister to more kids in a comfortable environment.
Between these two feeding centers, nearly 120 kids are reached with the gospel. We have made a commitment to both places that we will help to make their jobs easier. We are happy to report that the shade is currently being built this week at Cristina's and also the roof is being repaired at Sylvia's.

Our first student meeting this school year took place a couple of weeks ago. We invited a couple from Yuma who have spent the past 30 years of their lives as professors at the local university in Yuma. They came and spent several hours with the students, sharing with them hope and a good word.
This year has been a stretch because almost all of our students are university students. We have never had such a large budget for this group. Payment reminders have been sent to sponsors, and we are praying that all $36,000 comes in to cover these costs.

Not one thing we have done over the years and have planned for the future, could be done without a group effort. Anyone reading this is an important part of what has been done to share the love of Christ in San Luis, Mexico. We could not do it without you, and we want to thank you for everything...your prayers, your generous support, and your willingness to help. If you have any interest in getting involved by coming to serve or by giving, please contact us.

Prayer requests:
Students are beginning to plan for the Christmas party this year
Looks like between October and November we will be hosting two home builds.
Prayers for good health and that we are obedient to what God has called us to do.
In Christ’s love,
Curt & Kelly
