Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter written by our board member, Joel Wichman.
A verse that speaks to helping others grow is Galatians 6:2. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” This verse emphasizes the importance of supporting and assisting others in their struggles, which contributes to their growth and well-being, while also aligning with the teachings of Christ. When we help others, we create an environment of support and encouragement that fosters growth for both the individual receiving help and the one offering it. This reciprocal relationship contributes to the overall spiritual and personal development of the community.
In my opinion we are seeing this happen in ALL of the ministry’s CASA is involved in. We’ve assisted in over 80 house builds that started with Curt doing all the work alongside a mission team and now as Curt tells it “we have more local help than we need”. Sponsors have poured into the student ministry to help break the poverty cycle and now these young adults are striving to be doctors, hospital administrators and judges. Christina’s feeding shelter has served hundreds, if not thousands of meals, to those in need and now she is spreading the gospel at the dump, parks and wherever her bus can take her. I can go on and on telling of God’s miracles in San Luis, so I’ll only share one more. God is growing the people associated with this ministry and I believe He is growing them to do things far greater than we could even imagine!
Casa has an opportunity at this very moment I quite frankly never had on my radar, but I’m quite certain God had in mind the first time Curt and Christina met. As I said earlier, Christina is spreading the gospel all over town and in a small gathering space at the feeding center. There are times at the center when people see a full house and leave without feeling the love of Christ. Now I realize a building is not the church, but we also do not want it to be a stumbling block, so we are proposing to build a community center across from the existing feeding center. There is a lot for sale directly across from the center with a gated perimeter wall that provides plenty of space for a new building and outside activities.
As you might expect this is an expensive endeavor. We are estimating $100,000 to purchase the land and build a modest structure. The ministry has money to cover part of this cost which includes a $20,000 generous donation, but we need your help to expand God’s kingdom. The Board of CASA is looking for 50 people to walk alongside us by contributing $1000 ea. If you can give more, give more, if less is what you can afford, thank you.
It is so exciting to see our friends in San Luis grow and start to give back to their community. Help us make Christina’s dream of reaching the lost a reality.
Your friend in Christ,
Joel Wichman (CASA Board Member)
